We recently managed a 35-year-old gentleman who presented with persistent cough and progressive breathlessness for 3 months, initially treated elsewhere as bronchial asthma without improvement.
Further evaluation with CT Thorax revealed a right lung mass with severe right main bronchial stenosis.
On bronchoscopy, there was near-complete occlusion of the right main bronchus with impending total airway collapse, posing an immediate risk of right lung collapse.
An urgent rigid bronchoscopy was performed, and a self-expanding metallic stent (SEMS) was successfully deployed across the stenotic segment, restoring airway patency and preserving right lung ventilation.
Subsequently, EBUS (Endobronchial Ultrasound)-guided evaluation was done, and TBNA (Transbronchial Needle Aspiration) was performed from the lesion.
Cytology and histopathology confirmed Adenocarcinoma, and the patient has been initiated on appropriate oncological therapy.
